2014 Duathlon Cancelled

Since many runners/bicyclists decide months ahead of time what events they will compete in, I wanted to let all former and future participants of the Big Bone Lick Duathlon (formerly the Bad to the Bone Duathlon) know that there will be no duathlon held at Big Bone Lick State Historic Site in September 2014. The traditional date for the event (the third Saturday in September) will not be available. The park inadvertently allowed another family to rent the large shelter area which is a necessity when staging this event. In addition Friends of Big Bone and race manager, Pat Lense, are trying to gain a race sponsor as well as restructure the event for September 2015 so that it will attract interested participants and be a more successful event overall.

In the past eight years, FOBB, Pat Lense, and all volunteers have enjoyed putting on this yearly event and hope that during 2014 our redevelopment efforts will produce a better venue for serious and recreational participants. Your input regarding the duathlon would be appreciated, so feel free to respond with suggestions on how the event can be improved.

Courses mapped on MapMyRide.com

We recently added both the bike and run routes to MapMyRide and MapMyRun web sites. On their sites you can view the routes in much more detail and get the elevation changes. For the Run route it is best viewed in Satelite mode and may not be 100% accurate since the trails do not show up clearly on any of the maps. If you are training for the Big Bone Lick with friends you may want to start a training blog for the race on the site and invite others to join in!
