Did you know. . . Minimize

Did you know that by running the Big Bone Lick Duathlon you are actually helping to preserve an endangered species? Big Bone Lick State Park is one of the few places in the world where the federally endangered plant, Running Buffalo Clover, can be found. Unfortunately, the loss of wild roaming bison, increase the invasive species and agricultural practices have pushed this plant to the verge of extinction. By running through the area that has the Running Buffalo Clover, you are replicating the buffalo running over it and keeping the plant in existence.

New NAME!! Minimize

Due to a copyright issue with a training company in Virginia, whose name is "Bad to the Bone" we have had to change our name to Big Bone Lick Duathlon. The race will still be the same in every aspect, except for the name. It will be just as Bad as it ever has been.

About the Big Bone Lick

Big Bone Lick State Park and South Western Boone County will be the site of the Seventh Annual Big Bone Lick Duathlon on September 15, 2012 sponsored by The Friends of Big Bone! The run, bike, run format features views of some of Kentucky’s most beautiful scenery: pleasant valleys, peaceful pastures, woodland trails, country roads and towns along the Ohio River.  Racers will need the tranquil scenery to deal with the physical toughness of the running trails & bike courses.

Big Bone Licker Training Race Minimize

2nd Annual

I'd like to do the Big Bobe Lick Duathlon but . . .

- it looks like it is more challenging than I can handle!

- I don't think I can finish it.

- the second run killed me!

For the second year athletes can work up to the Big Bone Lick Duathlon by participating in the Big Bone Licker Training Race. The new race consists of the same run (3.4 miles) and bike (25.3 miles) of the full Duathlon; however competitors are finished after the bike portion. There is no second run!

Participants can use this race as a way to test their endurance and eventually ease into the full Big Bone Lick Duathlon another year. If you have been on the fence about doing the Big Bone Lick Duathlon this is a perfect way to participate without needing a week to recover after the race.

Courses mapped on MapMyRide.com

We recently added both the bike and run routes to MapMyRide and MapMyRun web sites. On their sites you can view the routes in much more detail and get the elevation changes. For the Run route it is best viewed in Satelite mode and may not be 100% accurate since the trails do not show up clearly on any of the maps. If you are training for the Big Bone Lick with friends you may want to start a training blog for the race on the site and invite others to join in!
